| "The ragpicker worked in silence and never looked at anything that was whole. His eyes sought the broken, the worn, the faded, the fragmented. A complete object made him sad... Wonderful the box without a key, wonderful half a dress... Fragments, incompleted worlds, rags, detritus, the end of objects, and the beginning of transmutations."
Currently working with a lot of fabric remnants and vintage buttons, my work is tactile and sensitive with varied markings, stitches, and textures. Always combing thrift stores and flea markets for materials, the hunt for compelling pieces is essential. My work, along with collage, also incorporates a sense of balance or "push and pull;" a sort of attraction of opposites, which I feel, animates my art, especially my dolls. Whether a fusion of complementary colors, the play of positive and negative space, or an ambiguous balance of male and female, the angel and devil, my work communicates a whimsical naiveté that is also psychologically probing and nostalgic.
Special thanks to my family, especially sweet nieces Samantha and Isabelle for much love, my two special kitties (Hermann and Sam), Anais Nin, and many friends for artistic support- Much love, Nicole
